About Justin
Energy defines my approach to the fretboard. I focus on direct, honest instruction that strips away the fluff. After playing in 3 bands and releasing 3 records, I have a clear view of how music works in the real world. I have spent 13 years refining my methods while touring across the East Coast to help students find their sound.
You get the benefit of those specific tone problems and songwriting shortcuts I encountered on the road. Let us work together to bridge that gap between your current ability and your musical vision.

Since music is an active conversation, I begin by running a diagnostic skills check before building a lesson plan. This assessment ensures that we spend our time on your actual weak spots rather than generic exercises. I use my BFA from NYU Steinhardt to demystify complex theory and ear training, making those concepts useful for rock idioms.
We apply power chords and lead guitar techniques to songs that you actually enjoy playing. My 13 years in the industry inform how I troubleshoot your chord transitions and picking style.
You will find that I prioritize practical application over dry theory every single time. My lessons focus on teaching you how to listen to the fretboard in a way that makes sense. Expect to work hard while keeping the mood light and focused on your progress.
It is my goal to ensure you feel confident holding the guitar after just a few sessions. You can count on me to keep the technical side of things grounded in musical reality.
