About Carmen

When I was 15, I realised why books meant so much to me: they weren't just an escape to another world, they were also ways of describing my own world back to me. Realising that I wasn't the only person to feel a certain way, that an author had also described it, perfectly, was one of the most mesmerising things I'd ever realised.

This realisation was what pushed me to study English at undergraduate level. Gaining an A* at A level in English Literature made me feel so much more confident in myself and I would love the opportunity to help others feel the same. Helping younger students while I was at school and volunteering to teach them only made me realise this further. Having the opportunity to study further into the field at uni has made me want to help others realise their love (if not, like!) of the power of words.

About the lesson

Private, one on one time is key to engineering your success. This is why I am dedicated to helping my students in not only achieving better grades, but to open for them the world that literature can offer. By equally focussing on exam technique and developing critical thinking skills, my students will learn how to construct their own points while arguing them eloquently.

As a current KCL English undergrad, I am most equipped to teach and support students at GCSE and A level. I have experience in tutoring students from a grade 6 to a grade 8 standard. For an hour of your time a week, I will help you reach your full potential and gain the grades you deserve.

Thanks to my experience attending two grammar schools, I am very aware of the benefits they bring and the importance of the 11+. I will teach my students to become critical thinkers and improve their exam technique in order to pass. Most importantly, however, I will focus my lessons on improving for themselves, not just an exam, as this will be most important for their future and well-being.
