About Edwin
I am a Life Science geek since I was a latchkey kid, and love seeing elements of this love for science in both my sons and daughters albeit at different levels and subject matters. I also love music and art which is very important as creativity balances intellect and packages knowledge in packets that can be more readily appreciated, assimilated, and associated with our own day-to-day lives. For example, learning Organic Chemistry without emphasizing the amazing shapes of molecules such as H2O is to lose the opportunity of connecting this apparently insignificant property to the reality that it is the unique shape of this molecule that gives Hydrogen and Oxygen gases to become lighter as a solid (ice). Were this not so, life on earth would not exist. In cold temperatures, bodies of water would otherwise completely freeze, making it difficult for life to survive until warmer temperatures return. But the ability for ice to float at the top of a body of water like a lake or pond and insulates the water below it to keep it from freezing allowing many organisms to survive until a thaw. Unless of course, you are a Tardigrade (bear), which is a whole other subject for discussion.

Patience because teaching is not just a duty but an opportunity to play a role that must be carried out with humility, responsibility, and respect for the learner. It is a privilege and persona that includes primitive storytellers, shamans, and leaders of tribes that passed on information such as ancestral, cultural, and technological to the next generation through example, dance, and even storytelling. It is crucial to have the ability to adapt to different learning styles based on the need of the student or even the student's state of mind (demeanor) on that particular day. We are often dealing with pre-pubescent individuals that are struggling with physical growth that their also developing brains and characters ( maturity) can't always keep up with. Recognizing and mediating this is just as important as knowing the material itself.
