About Alex
Out of all the subjects I have ever taught, math is my favorite.
My goal is to make K-8 students in Metro Detroit feel confident when it is time for math class and math tests.
I believe a strong set of math skills can give students an advantage in all school subjects, as well as at home, while traveling, and in their chosen career path.
I look forward to helping you with all your math goals!

I enjoy using real-life examples and analogies to make math more practical and fun for students.
I show my students how math ties into other subjects such as reading, writing, science, social studies, music, art, and even gym.
First, I will find out areas where my students accel and find the ones where they need more support. Then I will analyze their school's math curriculum and goals to create the best approach for their learning.
A typical lesson will go as follows:
Warm-Up (5-10 min)
- 1 to 3 problems based on areas that the student is confident in or based on previously covered material
1-on-1 Instruction (15-20 min)
- Introducing new material, ideas and examples while building on the student's strengths as well as concepts previously discussed
Independent Practice (15-20 min)
- Designated time for the student to practice and to work on new material and problems by themselves
- Students can ask up to three questions to help clarify or assist them during this time
Reviewing Independent Practice (10-15 min)
- Student will explain how they went through their independent practice while getting feedback and correcting answers
Exit ticket (5-10 min)
- 1 to 3 final problems used to assess the student's progress and to create the next lesson
- "On a scale of 1-5, how confident do you feel about today's concepts?"
- "What concept do you need help with the most?"
