My teaching methodology and techniques:
- meta-cognitive approach to the writing process
- emphasis on brainstorming & use of graphic organizers
- technology as a learning tool
- learner-centered format and differentiated instruction
- formative assessment and constructive feedback
Structure of typical lesson:
- 5-10 minute standard based warm up exercise
- 45 minutes developing the specific skill
- 5 minutes of review & collaborative goal setting
What sets me apart from other tutors?
First and foremost is my in-depth understanding of the BC curricular competencies and learning standards. Having taught a wide range of grades from kindergarten to grade eight, I know what the expectations are and how to navigate the curriculum. I understand what proficient level writing looks like and what strategies to use to help students work towards their goals.
Secondly, my vast experience working with children both inside and outside of the classroom sets me apart. Aside from classroom teaching, I have worked as a camp counselor, site manager for Pedalheads, and as the assistant director for a YMCA summer camp program. I understand how to connect with children and provide a safe and caring environment for them to express their individuality.
