About Adam
As of June 2017, I have over three and a half years of experience in a classroom environment, primarily as a teacher, delivering and planning Media Studies and ICT lessons to learners aged between 11 and 19. The remainder of my experience comes more in a support capacity, working with learners with special educational needs and providing pastoral support.
My approach to teaching is very much a humanist one. I believe that all learners, no matter of their background, are capable of achieving their potential. I always strive to create a naturally welcoming environment in my classroom, somewhere that makes learners feel safe while inspiring them to work to the absolute best of their ability. This is something that I have recently incorporated into my classroom practice as I asked my current Year 10 students to choose their own ‘Aspire To Achieve’ grade which is unmeasured, but acts as an aspirational target that both I and the student can use to challenge them during GCSE studies.
Something I strive to do in all my lesson planning is keeping the resources and examples used as contemporary as possible, I firmly believe that we all learn more through familiar stimulus, an ideology that often leads me to assisting learners in personalising and moulding the learning outcomes to reflect, most importantly, their ability and their interests/personality.
An element of successful teaching demonstrated throughout my experience is differentiation, meaning I am able to cater everything I deliver to the diverse needs of my learners. There are many barriers to learning whether it be age, gender, ethnicity, social depravity, mental or physical disability to name a few, I definitely feel that, thanks to my training and experience, I am able to apply different approaches to any of my work in order to appeal to and attract a number of people from a variety of different
backgrounds.
In the formal teaching observations undertaken during my PGCE, I was consistently graded as a ‘good with outstanding features’, which was once again reflected in an observation during one of my lessons at Collective Spirit.
I have an unrivalled passion for working with young people, specifically helping them achieve their potential. I have worked with a large number of young people, of varying ages and backgrounds, throughout Greater Manchester with a focus on assisting them in their personal development. I have, in the past, been challenged with a number of different situations that, due to my training in safeguarding, was able to overcome and steer the young person or persons back on track.
I am a concise and diligent worker, never missing a deadline and often looking for opportunities to further enrich my role, exceeding expectations and always going the extra mile. A perfect example of this would be when I went above and beyond in a Teaching Assistant position. Initially providing one to one support to a learner with Autism, I have stretched the limits of my original job description to include leading two extracurricular activities (Film Club and Newsletter), the planning and delivery of Philosophy – Media lessons and acting as a Cover Supervisor in the wider context of the school.
At this moment in time, I have a number of professional goals that I am aiming to reach for within the next five years. I currently hold two thirds of the required credits of a Master’s Degree in Education due my achievement of a Level 7 PGCE, the completion of the remaining third is a goal I am aiming to achieve. In addition to this, I wish to pursue a Master’s Degree in Film & Media Studies, as I believe the achievement both will further my career greatly.
