About Thomas
I recently graduated with a First-Class degree in History from the University of Nottingham, where I developed a strong interest in historical analysis, political ideas, and philosophical argument.
I currently teach teach/tutor at Collingham College in London.
I also achieved 3 A*’s across History, Politics and Philosophy A levels.
I enjoy teaching because I find these subjects genuinely engaging and rewarding to explore, especially when working through complex ideas and helping others make sense of them clearly. Having recently gone through the exam system myself, I understand both the challenges students face and what is required to perform well.
I aim to create a focused but approachable learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and steadily improving their performance.

My lessons are structured, exam-focused, and tailored to each student’s individual strengths and areas for improvement. I take a systematic approach to identifying gaps across the specification, allowing us to target weaker areas efficiently while reinforcing existing strengths.
Alongside this, I aim to engage students with aspects of the subject they find most interesting. Developing genuine interest in particular topics often leads to stronger understanding, better essays, and more confident performance in exams.
My teaching is strongly exam-oriented, with an emphasis on past papers, exam-style questions, and clear essay structure. I prioritise efficient, focused work over passive learning, using techniques such as active recall, essay planning, and guided exam practice to build both knowledge and exam confidence. I also provide resources and materials drawn from my own recent academic study.
Having recently completed a First-Class History degree, I am familiar with the demands of modern study, including the challenges posed by AI tools and digital distractions i.e. social media. I help students use these tools effectively while maintaining academic integrity and strong independent thinking.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for GCSE and A-Level students studying History, Politics, or Philosophy, whether they are looking to improve understanding or achieve top grades.

Thomas tutored my daughter throughout her GCSE’s for English, Religious Studies and History. He was kind and patient in his approach and really helped build her confidence. I particularly noticed how he made an effort to explore the sub-topics where she had more of an interest and to really foster those areas. I noticed my daughter naturally engaging with these subjects more and talking to me about those sub-topics she enjoyed after school - previously she had struggled with those subjects because she hadn’t enjoyed them. This part of his approach appeared to be effective as he worked to expose pockets of joy within subjects she disliked - this provoked curiosity for said subjects which resulted in her naturally engaging with the subjects more deeply, and subsequently improving her grades in them. Additionally, he was very professional and pleasant to book lessons with.
I know Thomas as a friend who tutored me for a year during my History A level. He was always reliable and really good at breaking down difficult topics so they actually made sense. He helped me improve my essays and how I approached exam questions, especially with past paper practice. That made a big difference to my confidence, and I ended up getting an A* in OCR History. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a clear and supportive tutor
I started classes with Thomas when I was really lacking in confidence and motivation. He taught with such patience and was really approachable with any questions I had or subjects I still felt confusion around. I found myself looking forward to the classes and now have so much more confidence in my understanding both of the subject and how to share my knowledge in an essay or exam. Great teacher!
Thomas taught me Muay Thai at university when he was part of the committee, and he was always kind, patient, and genuinely encouraging. He pushed me to keep improving but always in a way that felt supportive without being overwhelming. What I appreciated most was how quickly he adapted my learning style by rephrasing techniques, breaking things down, and making sure everything made sense before moving on. Training with him was motivating, and I could feel myself improving because of the way he taught.
