About Benedict
Knowing the importance of teaching and the difference it makes when one has an engaging teacher, I am at my element in teaching and inspiring interest and talent in the subject areas of my expertise. I have had strong A-levels in geography, politics, history, and business studies, and 5 years in higher education, where I gained a bachelor's degree in geography and politics at Royal Holloway and 2 master's degrees at King's College London in geopolitics and business management. My knowledge of my subject areas are compounded by my professional work environments in cybersecurity consulting and the UK military's geopolitical research centre. I have 2 years of experience in tutoring on the subjects of geography, history and politics at both GCSE/A-Level/IB-level and undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in both exam and essay writing based contexts.

The 3 key parameters of my tutoring style are: 1) Teaching method: I teach in a coaching and facilitating style by breaking down the segments within a subject area and simplifying the concepts and areas of the subject to improve the student's comprehension. Also, I do my best efforts to make the subject relatable to the student and to current affairs, to provide the purpose and importance of the subject - I want to make the subject interesting and engaging to them, beyond just merely going 'by the book’. Then, after I and the student 'paints the picture' and fleshes out the subject, I test their knowledge by having the student first write up their school/uni assignment or revision-related essays and notes within the lesson and outside the lesson in a time-bound manner - which I would then review and seek areas of praise and improvement. I give students a hand up, not a hand out (i.e. spoonfeeding)! 2) Communication: I always strive to have a 2-way communication channel with the students for both sharing my knowledge and also challenging them, in ironing out areas they are less knowledgeable in. I am also a flexible communicator, whereby they can always contact me via phone, email, and instant messaging if they have any concerns, areas of misunderstanding and shortfalls within the subject area and curriculum. 3) Lesson length: I do not put a particular time frame for the lesson unless specifically asked by the parents. I teach students as long as it takes for them to gain a better understanding of concepts and themes within the subject.
