About Blake
Classrooms always force teachers to prioritize some things over others, but tutors can tailor everything to your needs. You have distinct strengths and challenges, and learning skyrockets as soon as we build off of those starting points.
I’ve taught and tutored for 11 years, and been speaking and writing publicly at least once a week for 20 years. I’ve competed, coached, and won collegiate debate and speech contests. I’ve acted in plays and won writing contests. I never wanted to do any of that growing up. As a kid, I preferred to stay home and read or game. But I learned all of these skills over time, and that’s why I can teach them.

The best kind of learning is self-taught, and the 2nd best is 1-on-1. My goal is for you to read, write, and speak to the public all on your own and without any help as soon as possible. No matter your career path or interests, you will be better off knowing how to be yourself in word and deed.
For reading, slow and steady wins the race. Understanding a little really well beats reading quickly but with shallow insights. For tests, there are tips and tricks to read quickly. For life, quality trumps quantity.
For writing, assert yourself. There are only two parts to making a good claim: 1) make an argument, and 2) prove it. All the other bells and whistles matter, such as citations and formatting, but are ultimately in service to convincing an audience.
For speaking, nothing will ever replace practicing live and getting feedback. While it always seems daunting at first, no skill is more human or rewarding than pushing yourself forward to help your community.
