About Beverley
After achieving my RCM violin performance training (Grade 9 level, with first class honors), I trained as a Suzuki violin teacher (levels 1 and 2). I have also explored Canadian and Celtic fiddle styles with Gordon Stobbe, Kelly Trottier, Eilidh Buchanan and others. I have taught violin and fiddle privately at Shaw Music Studio for more than twenty years, as well as at the Nova Scotia Suzuki Summer Institute, and the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival. My background also includes teaching classroom music at the South Shore Waldorf School, where I started a violin program for children in Grades 4 to 6. During the Covid lockdown, I moved my studio online and organized zoom and video recitals for my students. I am back teaching in person now, but am still at ease with online teaching. Open to all levels and musical tastes. My lessons are creative, holistic and fun. My Suzuki teacher training has provided me with the tools to teach both children and adults how to achieve a beautiful sound on their instrument, right from the beginning. I teach by ear to begin with, but introduce reading and music theory as they apply to the individual student's needs and desires. . My experience as a Waldorf Educator has given me a wide range of teaching skills, tailored to meet individual needs. My varied and deep musical performance experience, having played with classical, folk, and Celtic ensembles at venues such as the Halifax Jazz Fest and the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, has given me the ability to work with all aspects of performing, including preparation, improvising, and managing stage fright. I also love to help students who seek to experience the joy of music as a means of personal development.
