About Jen
Hello! I’m an English tutor with a genuine love of reading, writing, and helping others feel more confident with words. I’m currently completing a PhD in the humanities and have experience tutoring English ages 11-16. I also volunteer my time as a tutor at my local library, as I have a real passion for helping people grow in confidence with words. Alongside tutoring, I write professionally, with work published in both academic and creative nonfiction.
I believe that everyone can improve their English skills with the right support. My lessons are engaging, encouraging, and always tailored to each student. Sessions might include unseen poetry analysis, essay planning and structure, fiction analysis, grammar, or other key areas — all linked to the National Curriculum for each year group.
I’ve always found joy in language, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with others, especially with students who may feel unsure of themselves. My goal is always to help learners find their voice, build confidence, and feel proud of their progress.

I tailor each session to the student’s needs, focusing on building confidence, clarity, and core English skills. Lessons are usually 60 minutes and include a warm-up activity, guided practice, and personalised feedback. I have experience tutoring English for ages 11–16, and I am currently completing a PhD, with published work in both academic and creative writing. My lessons are suitable for KS2, KS3, and GCSE students who want to strengthen their reading, writing, or exam technique.
