About Hannah
I have had extensive experience teaching and tutoring students who ranged in age from 6 to 22. As a counselor at a full-season residential summer camp for young girls, I instructed children in the sailing and ropes course programs, focusing on their growth and development in these activities throughout their 7 weeks there. In college, I was invited to tutor students in a Boston University Core Curriculum natural science course as a Learning Assistant. I helped these students with assignments, conducted weekly study sessions for the course and facilitated exam reviews throughout the semester. I was actually asked to be a Head Learning Assistant after just 4 months of working there, but had to decline that position for financial reasons. Lastly, I was a nanny for 10 months for three children ages 6, 11 and 13. I helped each of them every day with homework assignments in all subjects, especially Spanish, Writing and Social Studies, as well as assignments from extracurricular math and Hebrew programs.

My teaching method involves guiding students through thoughtful, challenging and exciting conversation. I have taught students ages 6 to 22 in a variety of subjects, but my favorite thing to do is help people improve their writing. I love reading, critiquing and editing essays, and many whom I have helped have told me that they learned a great deal from my lessons. I do not like to review essays privately; rather, I like to sit down with the student, read the piece over once in my head, then go back and dissect it with the student. We can then recognize issues of grammar, word choice and structure together, which will (A) teach the student to start recognizing these errors on their own, and (B) help the student understand not just what is wrong, but why something is wrong, as I provide explanations for each edit I make.
