About James
I’m James, a 1st Year medical student at the University of Sunderland. I have a particular interest in military, emergency and pre-hospital medicine although open to all other areas too!
I studied A Level Biology, Chemistry and Geography achieving A* in AQA Geography (dropping only 8 marks in the human paper), A* in AQA biology and an A in chemistry
I had a variety of teachers and saw first hand the difference a supportive teacher can make.
My teaching experience has been developed by coaching taekwondo for the last 6 years, working with various age groups and standards. This therefore gives me a nuanced approach to my teaching focusing on practical and student-led teaching.

A Level Biology is incredibly specific and therefore I value structured lessons tailored to the challenges of my students.
However, studying medicine, I also recognise the importance of developing scientific reasoning and offering a space to nurture students’ interests and inquisitiveness. From experience once core concepts are understood, this should be reinforced by attempting a high volume of exam questions.
