About Pierce
My motivation for pursuing higher education is fostered through my passion and excitement in learning new concepts. This is what I strive to develop in my students: a passion and excitement for learning. To accomplish this, I want my students to feel comfortable and confident in our learning environment. As a fellow student, I want my students to not only understand the concepts we work through, but to develop personal confidence in themselves. This can involve developing mental strategies and techniques to ease anxiety and nervousness while refining and mastering different study techniques that are backed by research. By fostering a positive and confident attitude towards learning with my students, we can achieve the goals that we set.

I believe in using a student-centred approach to learning where I work with my students on the specific areas that they find challenging and develop specialized lessons geared toward their learning. This can also include reviewing material that my students want to review, such as previous tests and written assignments. I also believe the best way to learn is by attempting practice questions. To complement this teaching technique, a typical lesson plan can involve working through practice questions together, with the goal of identifying both strengths and areas of improvement. I have always been a visual learner, and like to visualize concepts and topics through the use of images, diagrams, and analogies while teaching. To help students improve, I like to use my iPad and virtual whiteboards to help visualize challenging concepts. I have always been a strong believer in developing an understanding rather than simply memorizing. As a result, I am dedicated to ensuring that my students deepen their understanding of the concepts and topics we work through, rather than memorizing them. After all, it is much easier to remember concepts that we understand.
Most importantly, learning should be fun! I want my students to have fun and develop a positive attitude towards learning. By keeping the tutoring sessions challenging and fulfilling, I want my students to have an enjoyable yet rewarding experience. My previous teaching experience includes serving as an emergency supply teacher for various schools across my home region where I taught classes ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12. As a result, I love working with elementary and secondary school students in both one-on-one and group settings.
