About Julia

Spanish was my first language. Growing up in the United States was difficult for me especially because of the language barrier I faced to communicate with other children. As I grew older I began to try to forget my culture and where I came from. My Spanish began fading and my appreciation for my culture did too. And as soon as I realized this, I worked very hard to stop that from happening. I began communicating more in Spanish, asking my grandmother for her old cultural clothing, etc. And with that, did I not only gain appreciation for my culture and language again, but I was inspired to teach others more. I want to introduce children to my language and it’s culture so that they’re able to explore different ethnicities and traditions. I think it’s important to expose students to lots of different forms of cultures so that they are able to expand their imagination and thinking.

About the lesson

I will use visual presentations and slideshows to demonstrate new words and introduce new vocabulary to students. There will also be pronunciation practices, as well as recitation of the Spanish vocabulary. We would also work on sentence construction and parts of speech.
