About Calla
. I am a self-motivated and progress-driven individual with growing knowledge in the physical health education department. With the experience of teaching a variety of diverse populations, I have developed a passion and love for teaching.
While working for the Tim Horton Foundation, I got the pleasure to lead back country canoe trips for 3-6 days, developing the skills to teach the values of leadership, the importance of hydration and the variety of physical activities that can be incorporated in their everyday lives while being outside. At the end of the trip, my campers expressed their excitement to share their experience with others and to start using these new skills and lessons at home.
While volunteering for the SkateABLE organization, I was able to expand my knowledge on different teaching methods while teaching a new physical activity. By the end of this experience, I learned the meaning of preparation, and was able to better understand and teach the S.M.A.R.T goal setting approach.
I am currently working for March of Dimes as a brain injury rehab worker and personal support worker. This position has given me the opportunity to work with diverse populations, allowing me to further develop my communication skills, perfect my patience and adaptive skills, along with excelling at being a problem solver. While working for March of Dimes, I am also attending Laurentian University, graduating with a Bachelor of Physical Health Education, specialization in health promotion. Throughout my education, I have chosen to accomplish my internship alongside a physical health teacher at St. David’s elementary school in Sudbury, Ontario, gaining 200 hours of in class experience. While obtaining my degree, working, and attending my internship, I have learned great time-management skills to ensure I am successful in all fields.
