About Daniel
I have experience as a college instructor and as a teaching assistant. This way I know both what the students need and what the teachers want, letting me serve as a tutor for classes. I have experience teaching college undergraduate-level history, especially for Latin America but also Western/world history and human geography.
My core emphasis is on keeping each session student-focused and engaged, using techniques such as primary-source analysis, historical interpretation, or role-playing to better understand past actors and the choices they had, rather than just trying to recall a mass of facts.
I believe that history-writing is a unique skill: my students gather evidence on their own, they outline and structure an argument, they defend a conclusion based on the evidence and its context—they’ll learn the “parts” of writing instead of just setting down words until you stop. This leaves them with critical-thinking skills that will serve them beyond college.
