About Camilla

My name is Camilla, and I have been a tutor for three years. I tutored statistics, French 1 and 2, and writing courses at my community college. My favorite subject to tutor was writing, because I loved to see students go through the creative process and learn to enjoy writing. I earned my associate degree in English last spring, and to do so I took a myriad of writing classes. These included English Composition, English Literature, World Literature, Critical Thinking and Writing, and Creative Writing to name a few. These classes taught me the best ways to work through the writing process of essays, short stories, research papers, literary analysis, and poetry. With this degree, I hope to eventually teach a writing class or teach English as a foreign language to non-English speakers. Moreover, I have been an avid writer for most of my life; I started writing short stories for myself and others when I was 10, and wrote several novellas on various platforms through high school. I have since taken a break, but I still do some creative writing projects here and there. I believe that one of the most powerful tools are words, and I hope to inspire others to wield them with confidence.

About the lesson

My tutoring style embraces mistakes, encourages brainstorming and rough drafts, gets into the details, and cultivates confidence. I work with students to start their projects no matter where they are in their process and teach that it is perfect to not be perfect. I show them how to create a constructive draft, then guide them to chisel out the big picture. The most important thing for me to inspire in the student is their confidence in their writing and creative abilities. A typical lesson would start with a look at their project and any ideas they may have - if a student is drawing a blank, I am here to brainstorm! Once out of the brainstorming phase, I aid the student in creating a draft that they can work on with any guidance needed from me. In the final stages of writing, I’m here to point out details the student should work on. And of course, I’m always there to answer questions. My lessons are for high school level or those working on their associate degree.
