About Clarissa

Hi! I'm Clarissa Chong, a rising freshman at Harvard College. I graduated from The Branson School in Ross, CA in 2025 with an unweighted GPA of 3.98. I received a 35 composite on the ACT (99th percentile). I am an AP scholar and received 5s and 4s on several AP tests. I enjoy both humanities and STEM disciplines, and tutor across both. I have experience tutoring across a range of subjects and also offer support for high schoolers working on independent projects such as research papers, summer program applications, personal essays, and ACT prep. My goal is to empower students to think independently, and make challenging material feel intuitive. I have taken part in enrichment programs such as Stanford’s Sejong Korea Scholar Program and Professor Michael Sandel’s “Justice” online seminar, and presented academic research and calls to action at venues including the SF Human Rights Commission and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s office. Outside of academics, I’m a dedicated fitness enthusiast and enjoy running, strength training, and skiing.

About the lesson

I tutor elementary, middle, and high school students, tailoring each session to the student’s individual pace. I use clear analogies and their preferred learning style to promote maximum mastery of material. I encourage you to send me topics or material to review in advance of the sessions. I am happy to go over any school assignments, exam review, or teach certain concepts.

Because I am a high school graduate and have taken most of the courses I tutor recently, I am well equipped to offer relevant academic advice. This curriculum familiarity holds true for standardized testing preparation guidance as well. I am well versed in reviewing AP exam trends and ACT strategies. It is very important to understand the material; however, I also aspire to help students to learn the format, style, and nuances of the exam to give them the best chance possible of performing well. Consistent practice and studying over the long-term is much more conducive to reaching proficiency than squeezing in a few longer cram sessions. I especially encourage ACT prep, AP prep, and essay writing students to meet with me on a continuous basis or at least regularly repeat past exams, check answers, and review any mistakes. Please reach out with any other specific requests; I would likely be amenable!
