About Nick

I am Nick Hoffmann, an engineer and tutor who is passionate about making knowledge accessible for all. I earned a master’s in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University. I also earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Northern Illinois University with an applied mathematics minor, graduating magna cum laude as a Presidential Scholar on a full tuition award. At Huntington Learning Center I taught ACT and SAT as well as algebra, precalculus, calculus, statistics, chemistry, physics, biology, anatomy, English, and reading. I designed individualized plans and created lessons from real assignments to set students up for success.

My STEM background gives me real examples to bring into sessions. I worked at the bench and in the lab, from synthesizing fluorescent nanoparticles with careful pH control to confirming results by reading absorbance data with UV Vis and Beer’s Law. I used microscopy to verify structure and uptake into cancer cells, and I planned and analyzed cell culture dose-response studies to understand how variables change results.

On the engineering side, I helped build an upper limb exoskeleton and led the electrical integration, which lets me point to concrete moments that explain how forces and circuits operate in the real world. I also modeled exponential behavior in a prosthetic vacuum pump and fit curves to compare designs, which keeps my math explanations grounded in how functions and data meet. These experiences help me show why a graph matters, how a model fits data, what you can and cannot conclude from an image, and how to connect classroom ideas to working systems.

I enjoy mentoring and making complex ideas feel understandable and actionable. Outside of work I design and 3D print practical items that simplify my routine. I also play several instruments and perform original music in Chicago.

Confident grades start here with focused STEM tutoring that delivers clear wins every session.

I help students of all ages master Algebra through Differential Equations, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and preparation for the ACT, SAT, and AP exams. If school has felt frustrating, you are in the right place. I tailor pacing and explanations to each student and rebuild confidence with steady, measurable progress.

How I Teach:
Every student begins with a brief diagnostic so I can target the right skills. I use step by step explanations, worked examples, and scaffolded practice. Together we reinforce learning with focused problem sets, highlight common errors, and keep organized notes that make review simple.

Inside a Lesson:
We start with a short check-in and a clear goal, warm up a prerequisite skill, and I explain the concept with one or more focused examples as needed. We then practice together with immediate feedback, move to independent work that mirrors class or test demands, and close with a concise recap, next steps, and practice aligned to deadlines.

What Sets Me Apart:
I have proven classroom experience at Huntington Learning Center and rigorous training as an engineer. I convert live assignments into targeted lessons and adapt instruction, especially for neurodivergent students and students with disabilities, so you see measurable improvement.

Ready to try a session? I offer a quick skills check and a clear plan after the first meeting.
