About Aouda
I have 3 years experience tutoring privately, and have recently graduated in English Literature with Philosophy with a scholarship on academic merit. As well as this, I speak Arabic and enjoy in engaging in all aspects of a young persons learning, as I believe they are all connected.
I privately tutored two secondary school students, one year 7 and the other year 10, in English Language and Literature. The youngest was dyslexic and needed a little more attention than his sibling, however I was able to balance my time with them, effectively engaging them both in Shakespeare by finding interesting ways to cultivate a genuine interest in their syllabus. In the end, the youngest was able to surpass expectations by doing better than expected at the end of the year with his English exams. I was also responsible for relaying information to their parents and keeping them updated in their learning.
I tutored a South Korean girl in English, and was tasked with thinking of interesting ways to engage with her. We started the summer with absolutely no English at all, by the end of the summer she was ready to begin her ESL course with a new confidence and a strong foundation. I was tasked with preparing my own worksheets and word tables that I made in my free time ahead of our lessons. I found creative ways to teach, for example I would spend time with her in the kitchen cooking to work through the words for all the utensils and vegetables. After a few days, we would move onto the market and words for commerce, and later the museums and botanical gardens. I would discuss with her which areas she felt she needed to develop – the language barrier did not matter or intimidate me, and we were able to find ways to communicate. I even went so far as to learn basic Korean words to help her feel comfortable.

I have always enjoyed tutoring as I am passionate about delivering high quality education, and understand the time and commitment it takes to do so. I always work in terms of each tutee, and therefore have no singular approach. Each student is an individual, and so certain thing will speak to them that might not to another.
My approach to tutoring focuses on meeting the individual needs of the student and so I try to identify which approaches of learning suits them best. With a firm and leading hand, I seek to help the tutee and discover the tools that fit for themselves and will aid them in more than just their classes. I have a wealth of worksheets, resources and subscriptions with TES and other teaching tools that allow me to do this successfully.
I can really get on a level with younger students, which helps to improve their self-confidence and encourage a certain level of engagement and articulation. In this way, I find I am accessible to tutees and this makes them more comfortable and keen to learn; they feel like I am working with them and for them, and I always seek to develop a sense personal responsibility for their education. Youth engagement is something I have had an interest in since 2014, and working with young children to cultivate a genuine interest and excitement in education is a very important cause close to my heart. I also believe communication with parents is key, as they often know their kids best. It is important to ensure they can see the techniques are working, and that the tutee is engaged and doing well. Finally, in every workplace and under every tutelage I have been told my enthusiasm is infectious, as I enjoy nurturing a positive and healthy attitude to hard work
