About Dave

The first thing to say about myself is that I am passionate about the English language. It has a richness and quality that has always fascinated me. I consciously try to transmit some of that passion to my students. I studied Chemistry at Cambridge University and have combined a career in analytical Chemistry with teaching English. Having taught students of all ages and abilities, from diverse backgrounds, I have developed both cultural and learning style sensitivity. I aim to find what drives every individual to excel, then tailor my method accordingly.

About the lesson

I am skilled at engaging with each pupil at the level they currently are in their progress with English, from where we move forward. My students typically develop a new enjoyment and satisfaction with English Literature and Language, as I am able to explain things to them that they've struggled or been dissatisfied with. We generate laughter, fun and inspiration in our sessions together.
Many of my students want to concentrate on spoken English, our sessions vary in format, but typically will involve a lot of talking, reading and engaging analytically with written text, generating and discussing ideas. Usually, we will proceed to writing in whatever form the student is focusing on.
