About Diana

An avid traveler and lover of learning, I have spent the last 15 years traveling the world with my husband and helping families/students to reach their fullest potential. Having tutored privately and online, I've experienced best of both worlds and learned how to provide virtual tutoring (before the pandemic!) in a unique way that engages learners of all backgrounds and experiences. Having lived in four different states in the NE, South and South-central US, and worked with families all across the US, I have had the chance to learn just as much from my students / their families as they have from me. I love the opportunity online tutoring gives me to reach more families and help their child(ren) reach whatever goals they have - no matter how big or small.

About the lesson

I taught Special Education in the public school system for 11 years, where I also tutored privately for 4 years, before moving out of state. For the last 7 years, I have worked as an online tutor for students of all ages with diverse needs - PreK through adults. While the majority of my background and experience is in special education, I have also worked with students just struggling to keep up due to pace, class size or even instructional style. I believe the most important part to reaching any student is creating a solid relationship built on trust, respect and understanding. From there, motivation and feeling success can take over and forward progress will occur! My goal is to always make learning feel like we aren't learning anything at all, but, in reality, we are. By quickly assessing a learners strengths and areas of need (which is done in a free 30-min "get to know you" session), I am able to determine where to start in order to help each student grow. In every session I will first check-in with my students to build comfort and rapport and follow that with a quick review or previously learned material or mini informal assessment depending on the situation. We will then dive into new learning through engaging, interactive lessons designed specifically for the student I am working with. Support from families and working together is paramount to student success so all sessions include a follow-up text or email to parents with a basic summary of our session (skills/concepts covered, how the student performed, celebrations/concerns and next steps.)
