About Cristina

Hello, my name is Cristina, I was born in Rome and I'm currently living in Canada. I taught Italian in France and Canada at several levels to students from 5 to 75 years young. ;) I speak several languages at different levels (English, French, Portuguese plus a bit of German and Japanese) and, usually, my lessons are tailored to students' educational needs and are engaging, interesting and highly effective. My students start speaking Italian during the first lesson and look forward to our next lesson.
My Education: PhD in French Studies, MA in Literatures and Intercultural translation, BA in Foreign Languages and Cultures, and DITALS 2, a certification enabling me to teach Italian as a second and as a foreign language.

About the lesson

Everyone of us has their own way to learn and I try to adapt myself to your way, bringing a bit of me. I like using songs, films, proverbs, games and a series of activities aimed to build your knowledge of the Italian language and constantly improve your reading, speaking, listening and writing skills. I use the communicative approach, meaning I speak Italian as much as I can, but I switch to English every time is needed, especially with beginners and when I explain grammar, in order to help students to understand thoroughly the topic of the lesson. Usually, I give students some homework to practice and consolidate what they learned. Where do we start? Well, we’ll start with something you like, with your passions, and then we’ll add all the rest. Whatever people may say, grammar is important and, although it may sometimes seem difficult, we will make it easy. I think grammar rules are like little bricks that, put one next to the other, allow us to build our little house, a shelter, that place where we feel safe, confident and at ease to speak another language. I would like to help you to build your little house, your shelter, that place where you feel confident in yourself and at ease to express yourself in Italian. As for conversation classes, I look forward to talking to you! We can talk as much as you like! :) I speak multiple languages and I was a foreign language student and always will be. I consider myself a learner. I know what your difficulties are and I can help you to overcome them and make you talk like me! :) Are you ready to speak like a pro? ;)
