About Ian
I first started teaching languages in 2017 when I launched and taught an English class for women entrepreneurs in Oaxaca, Mexico. Later, I returned to Mexico to tutor advanced English speakers in Mexico City. In Philadelphia, PA, I launched multiple Spanish courses tailored to my students' needs like an online Spanish class for social workers/direct service providers and a conversation-centered class. I also led classes as a Spanish TA at Haverford College.
Moreover, I bring lived experiences from volunteering in hostels around South America (e.g. Colombia & Peru). My other professional interests concern economics, political science, and psychology, having analyzed data at labs at Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania. I completed my B.S. at Haverford College in 2022 in Psychology and Statistics.

I center my lessons around connecting Spanish to the contexts you want to use it in: school, work, travelling, etc. I like to begin with a quick warm-up, e.g. a quick game, and then get into the topic you most want to work on. When diving into a topic, I lead with a tiny grammar overview before getting as fast as possible to concrete examples. Through examples and speaking, we can then slowly work in the more abstract rules. I like to finish with more free-form conversations and time for questions.
I have taught all ages, having spent the most time working with college students. I have personally seen how useful languages are for making connections that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. I would love to help you reach your goals, whether you're looking to pass an exam or apply this knowledge to help you connect to others for the rest of your life.
