About Rickey

I am a Spanish teacher. I have been teaching communicative Spanish for four years. I have a degree in Spanish Literature and Linguistics. I currently teach 200 students a day in a middle school using a communicative approach. I have worked in diplomacy. I am a certified medical interpreter. I have also interpreted for foreign diplomats.

About the lesson

I am a communicative language teacher, member of ACTFL (American Council for Teachers of Foreign Languages). I use the target language from day one. As a communicative language teacher I believe in the power of Comprehensible Input. I am dedicated to Second Language Acquisition. Everyone who has learned one language is completely capable of learning another. In addition to language input lessons, comprehensible reading and writing workshop are essential components of my classes allowing the student to digest the lesson's aural input while satisfying their need for conscious learning. I utilize a PACE model when discussing grammar allowing the student to co-construct the patterns that they are ready to acquire at the time. If at any point a student would like to learn about legacy grammar rules, I am a card carrying member of the Grammatron Academy and would enjoy nothing more than parsing nouns and conjugating verbs.
