About Sara
I am a Spanish teacher, researcher, and international education professional specializing in Spanish as a Foreign/Second Language, multilingualism, and plurilingual communication. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics and Applied Languages (English and German) from Madrid, a Master's degree in Theoretical and Experimental Linguistics from Leiden University (The Netherlands), a Master's degree in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language, and a Master's degree in Teacher Education from Madrid. In 2026, I completed my PhD in Philology at Complutense University of Madrid, with a thesis on professional communication, bilingualism, and intercomprehension in the European context. I have been awarded a Fulbright scholarship and have taught Spanish to undergraduate students at Wabash College (Indiana, USA), as well as at the Instituto Cervantes in Moscow (Russia) and to Chinese students in Madrid. I currently teach Spanish at IE University and work as a lecturer and TFM supervisor on the Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at UDIMA. I have also taught Spanish and linguistics at other university and international education institutions, and have experience in teacher education, DELE/SIELE preparation, and academic supervision. Alongside my teaching and research, I currently work at the University of Alicante as an International Student Coordinator, where I am involved in the academic and intercultural support of international students and in the organization and coordination of international educational activities. My research interests include multilingualism, intercomprehension, interculturality, professional communication, and the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreign language. I am particularly interested in connecting linguistic research with language teaching and exploring how multilingual resources can be used effectively in educational and professional contexts.

I based my lessons on my students' needs, that is, I talk to them and check what the best learning method for them is and from there, I develop the lessons. Yet, if a student is unsure, my approach to teaching is mainly communicative with the support of grammar explanations. I focus on the student's ability to communicate in Spanish in any situation that might arise. I also build on previous knowledge, meaning that what I teach, we will always review it and reuse it. As for the content, I use contemporary material, daily news and literary content if the student is interested in culture. I try to make the lessons as fun as possible so that learning is facilitated.
