About Michael
I taught French and Spanish for more than 42 years on the high school and college/university levels and was credentialed in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. My Doctor of Modern Languages degree in French and Spanish was conferred by Middlebury College in Vermont and through the Sorbonne in Paris, France. In 2014, I earned my TEFL Master's certificate through BridgeTefl (Certificate #: TO0028216) and taught English for 2 years at the Centro de Estudios Interamericanos in Cuenca, Ecuador, until mid-March, 2020, when the Coronavirus pandemic curtailed face-to-face classes. I am an experienced, certified, and very enthusiastic language teacher in all three languages! I have lived and taught abroad – in France and Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Ecuador. For over 45 years, I have been able to develop a great rapport with students, engage them, and motivate them to learn the language if they are willing. My grading system is fair, and I am always willing to give additional opportunities to practice and to improve to those who want and/or need them. The language that I help the learners to acquire is personal, meaningful, useful and relevant to their needs and desires. In addition to the language, I include a great deal of cultural material in my lessons in order to give broader context to the language(s). I have found that learners really appreciate the cultural discussions, articles and texts/videos/podcasts that supplement the lessons.

Perfect! Dr. Michael is a superb teacher/tutor. Having taught at the collegiate and pre-collegiate levels, he has many years of experience teaching students representing various ages and skill levels. He is designing our lessons to help me meet my particular needs and goals (preparing for some upcoming travel). We’re paying special attention to the vocabulary and grammar, as well as idioms and cultural knowledge, that are relevant for my travel. I especially appreciate his helping me with proper pronunciation. He has an energy and affection for learning that is inspiring and infectious. He exhibits remarkable patience. I’m truly enjoying our lessons and look forward to each one.
