About Jodie
I completed my GCSEs in 2018 on the new UK grading system (my year were unfortunate enough to be the guinea pigs of this change!) and received glowing results after months of hard work. In English language, I got a grade 8 and English literature grade 9 (in my other subjects my grades ranged between a grade 5 to 7/B). Luckily, my English teacher was super helpful and told us the sneaky tips and tricks you can use to get the highest grades and I'd like to share this with anyone looking to bump up their grade. After GCSEs, I attended Wilmslow High Sixth Form College where I studied English Literature, English Language and Sociology. After a lot of hard work and my fair share of hiccups and upsets I managed to graduate with A* (S), A (LIT), A (LAN). At the moment, I an undergraduate student at the University of Manchester, studying BASS Social Anthropology & Sociology.
During my A-Levels I also mentored KS3 students in a newspaper group which I founded with a friend and helped them to produce some of the best pieces I've ever seen a year 8 do! In addition to this, in KS4 I was part of a school-led reading partner programme where every day I'd support KS4 students lacking in confidence in their academics. Here, I was able to develop the skills needed to engage young people in wanting to learn and gain an appetite for curiosity and knowledge.
As for my personal life, I am a big reader and an avid learner - which is why I chose to follow an academic path. However, I also run an online Etsy shop selling book bundles and jewellery, in addition to reselling clothes on Depop in my spare time. I would describe myself as a self-starter with many hobbies and interests, including music (guitar, ukulele, baritone uke and keyboard), crafts like knitting and painting and also writing for local zines.

In terms of how I conduct my lessons, I aim to provide a safe space for discussion where students can make mistakes and learn from them in an engaged way. I will also offer homework help where young people can bring along any work they are struggling with or are particularly interested in so that I may guide them to the answers they need for their exams. In addition to this, my approach will be based on the student's particular curriculum, however, I try to allow my students the opportunity to guide the discussion to focus on what they are having trouble with so that they can develop a keen interest in difficult or boring topics - plus I believe that debate and discussion is one of the most robust tools we can use to keep students engaged and interested.
