About Maria

I’m a Senior Music and Drama Scholar at Marlborough College with over a decade of experience in piano, singing, violin, viola and performance. Music has always been central to my life since childhood, from performing at the Royal Academy of Music and with the Chineke! Junior Orchestra, to earning a Grade 8 distinction in instrumental performance and being named a Top 10 finalist in the Song Academy SAY19 Competition. As an active performer, I am a member of the school’s Chapel Choir and Schola Cantorum (finest voices in the college) which perform at high-profile services and events. I also lead the viola section as first desk in both the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, experiences that have strengthened my ensemble awareness, musicality, and leadership on stage. Beyond my own performance work, I have enjoyed leading my college’s House Harmony, a group of select singers, and Kidz First Choirs at Jesus House Church, where I guide younger students in developing their voices, teamwork, and confidence through fun and engaging rehearsals. These experiences have strengthened my passion for helping others discover their musical potential. As both a performer and teacher, I strive to make every lesson creative, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s personality and goals. My background in ensemble work, theatre, and vocal performance allows me to bring energy, imagination, and empathy to my teaching. Alongside my academic studies (predicted A* in Music and an A* EPQ), I continue to perform regularly as a pianist, singer, violinist, and violist at concerts, recitals, and community events. I believe music should be expressive, personal, and full of joy - and I love helping students of all ages find their confidence and voice through it.

About the lesson

As a Senior Music Scholar and performer with over ten years of experience in piano and singing, I offer creative, engaging lessons designed especially for children. My goal is to help each student build confidence, develop musical technique and discover the joy of expressing themselves through music. Every lesson is tailored to the student’s age, ability, and interests - whether that’s learning to play their first song, improving vocal control, or preparing for exams and performances. I combine technical training with fun, imaginative activities such as musical storytelling games, rhythm challenges, and improvisation exercises to make music accessible and enjoyable. As an experienced performer and active musician (Grade 8 distinction, performances at the Royal Academy of Music, Top 10 finalist in the Song Academy SAY19 Competition), I bring real-world experience and enthusiasm into every session. I believe music should be inspiring, empowering, and full of creativity - and I love helping young musicians grow their skills and confidence each week.
