I am a semi-retired math teacher with 38 years’ teaching experience. I have taught all grades of Ontario secondary school math as well as UK IGCSE and A-level math and further math.

About Mike
I have taught in both private and public schools, but most of my experience is in private schools, both boarding and day schools. At the last school I taught at, the students called their teachers by their first names, fostering a more collegial and cooperative atmosphere between students and teachers and I very much enjoyed that philosophy. My classes were very small (6 - 10 students per class), much like tutoring a small group of students. I have dedicated my life to teaching young people and I'm not ready to give up the joy I get from watching students gain success from hard work and determination which I strive to inspire.

I am looking to tutor highly motivated and determined math students, either in their homes or remotely via the internet. My lessons are fun, but I have high expectations for my students. I bring enthusiasm and passion to all my lessons. Whether it is math, sports or music, practice makes perfect. Students need to practice their mathematics on their own and the first thing I do is check what work they have done in preparation for each lesson. We then go over any mistakes as well as highlight well-executed solutions. We then work together through further questions to reinforce the understanding of the concept, each time expecting the student to do more on their own. I finish by assigning some review questions and by setting some work to prepare for the next lesson. Please know that I am aware that you have other classes and a personal life, but I am here to help you improve your math skills and that requires a commitment from you as well as me.
