Guitar Instructor Curriculum
Beginner Level (Months 1-3)
Focus: Basic Techniques, Simple Songs, Fundamental Theory
1. Week 1-2: Introduction to the Guitar
• Understanding the parts of the guitar (body, neck, headstock, etc.)
• Tuning the guitar (using a tuner)
• Proper posture and hand positioning
• Basic strumming techniques (downstrokes, upstrokes)
• Introduction to open strings and basic fretting
2. Week 3-4: First Chords and Simple Rhythms
• Learn basic open chords: C, G, D, E, A, Em
• Practice switching between chords slowly
• Learn simple strumming patterns (downstrums, down-up strums)
• Basic rhythm exercises (quarter notes, eighth notes)
• Play simple songs with 2-3 chords (e.g., “Horse with No Name,” “Twinkle Twinkle”)
3. Week 5-6: Introduction to Melody and Single-Note Playing
• Learn to read tablature
• Play simple 1-string melodies (e.g., “Ode to Joy”)
• Introduce basic finger placement and fretting hand exercises (e.g., chromatic scale)
• Introduction to the concept of time signatures (4/4)
4. Week 7-8: Basic Theory and More Chords
• Introduction to musical notation and the chromatic scale
• Learn how to read chord charts
• Expand chord vocabulary: F major, B minor
• Practice basic chord transitions with a metronome
• Simple songs using the new chords (e.g., “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”)
Intermediate Level (Months 4-6)
Focus: Advanced Chord Shapes, Song Structure, Basic Soloing
1. Week 9-10: Barre Chords and Power Chords
• Introduction to barre chords: F major, B major, minor barre shapes
• Learn to play power chords (root and fifth)
• Practice moving barre chords across the neck
• Practice strumming and picking with dynamics (soft/loud)
2. Week 11-12: Scales and Soloing
• Learn the pentatonic scale (minor and major)
• Practice simple solos and riffs (e.g., “Sunshine of Your Love” riff)
• Introduction to bending notes and vibrato
• Practice improvising using the pentatonic scale
3. **Week 13-14: Introduction to Basic Music Theory
