About Austin
I used to hate the idea of playing guitar, mainly because I couldn't understand it and it hurt to fret. But one day, when I was 11 I heard an amazing guitarist and determined to try to learn the song he was playing, so I grabbed the old Yamaha my mom gave me and started on my journey to learning the guitar. After trying to learn the song initially, I realized this was way beyond my skill level, so I learned a few basic songs then tried learning that same song again, I was still lacking the necessary skills, but was better than last time, so back to the grindstone I went, teaching myself concepts such as fingerpicking and how to discern chords by ear. Fast forward 6 years, that song is a cakewalk, and I also picked up the banjo and mandolin on the way, and I asked myself, If I were to start again, what would I do differently, and that's what I wish to teach you, what I would have done to learn easier, better, and faster.

I like to start from the ground up, and recommend that beginners take my lessons, but I can still teach those of intermediate skill level. A lot of beginner guitarists have a lot of similar struggles to what I had when I first learned guitar, most of which have simple solutions that one doesn't realize until you have gained some more experience, like how to smoothly transition between chords, or how to learn and practice fingerpicking, for example. As a teacher, I try to give you the solutions to the problems that Youtube alone could not teach me and teach you things I wish I had learned when starting out, such as basic music theory so you can better understand chords and forearm exercises to make fretting a less difficult task and have taught people who within 5 days had learned 4 basic chords and were able to smoothly (for a beginner) transition between them, I specialize in folk music but can also teach classic rock, bluegrass and country
