About Benjamin

As a self-published author, I am well versed in the world of narrative. I specialize in the genre of fantasy, 3rd person, YA to adult. My collegiate and post-collegiate training is in acting, having received my Baccalaureate of Fine Arts from Youngstown State University and then went on to complete the Neighborhood Playhouse School's two-year conservatory program, specializing in the Meisner technique. The NPH has produced such other writers as Steve Rogers (not Captain America), and employs published authors like Megan Campisi. I use my acting and theatrical training frequently when working on writing, viewing the work from a uniquely character-driven perspective. Focusing on character as one of the strongest drivers of narrative, instead of plot or story, can work strongly in the writer's favor, and I have allowed it to work in mine. I believe I will be able to instruct you in ways to make it work in your favor as well.

About the lesson

Short stories are the bread and butter of the casual reader, as well as one of the oldest and most enduring forms of literature in the world. Discovering pacing, tone, character, plot, and setting are all integral parts of writing a successful short story, but there's more too it than that. There is the synergy that binds them all together.

We, as explorers of technique, will identify:
-What type of story are you trying to tell?
-What problems are you having trying to write it, if any?
-What parts of the story are REALLY working?
-What parts of the story might need some work?
-How can we improve upon what you already have?

Having written many short stories of various lengths, narrative styles, tones, and genres, I am well versed in synergizing the various aspects of storytelling to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. I can help you to do the same, utilizing and combining your own unique insights with narrative form to effectively tell the story that you wish to tell.

These lessons are meant for those who maybe have a story they wish to tell, but aren't quite getting the right feel, or perhaps those who have yet to put their story to pen and paper (or computer screen nowadays).
