I have written and produced over ten original performance pieces and films. Additionally, I write a Substack Newsletter addressing issues of race, politics, and world affairs. For the past seven years I have been working full-time in the film industry. Finally, I used to wear a tie every day that I worked as a secondary school English teacher. Looking professional indicated to my students that I respected not only the subject matter and their education but also who they were as individuals.

About the lesson

My teaching is centered around connecting classroom material to everyday life. I encourage students to find their personal relationship with the texts they are reading or the essays they are writing and develop strategies that engender students individualism. I am a firm believer in universal themes and cross-cultural connections. Furthermore, I am highly invested and enthusiastic about the subjects I teach.

A typical lesson plan would begin with making those connections between a student's life and the classroom material. Sometimes I will begin a lesson with a vocabulary exercise. For example I'll take one word (what I call a good SAT word) and have the student create a drawing involving the word's definition. Other times, I will begin the lesson with a logic question, cryptogram, or word jumble. As for my main lessons, I incorporate a combination of writing and discussion, folding in little questions about grammar and writing techniques as needed.
