About Sophie
I have had a passion for Maths since I was at school. Solving equations and problems from a multitude of topic areas are activities that I find motivating, interesting, and it is highly rewarding to enhance the confidence of my students in Mathematics. Although many of the topics may seem obscure, and arguably unnecessary to learn, there are many important transferable skills acquired through succeeding in Maths. To name a few, problem solving and communication skills, alongside a strong analytical aptitude are paramount to the success in all expertise. That is why it is so important that students are able to access their Maths studies and I pride myself in being patient, reassuring and encouraging in all lessons. My aim is to quickly identify misconceptions, address them and then regularly revisit to strengthen knowledge and transfer it from working memory to long term memory.

Every lesson is tailored to the knowledge of my student. We always begin with homework feedback and addressing any misconceptions. We then spend a small amount of time on a retrieval activity. This could be curated mixed topic questions or a flash card quiz (for GCSE students). We then deep dive into the topic that we are working on, which has usually been identified from the starter activity. For my GCSE students we would ensure that we get the correct ratio of content and exam paper practice to ensure that they are fully prepared for their exams.
