About Mary-Ann

I'm a seasoned technology and science journalist who has been published in more than 30 global media brands, news websites and magazines over 18 years, including five years with BBC News Online. I have been nominated for five national and international journalism awards and my articles have been cited in more than 200 books and academic papers. Currently freelancing, I am offering my services as an English, essay writing or thesis paper tutor. About the lesson

As a seasoned journalist with more than 18 years' experience in explaining technology and science simply to the general public, as well as 3 years' experience in tutoring students where English is not their first language, I can assist in teaching you: - Primary School (11+ exam) & Secondary School GCSE English (literacy, reading & comprehension) - Primary school, high school & undergraduate degree essay writing - How to draft a thesis paper I am comfortable with tutoring both children and adults. Lesson length: 1 hour Teaching methodology: My methodology revolves around breaking down each part of a problem into small, bite-size chunks and tailoring the teaching to the student's learning speed. The focus is on making sure that the pupil understands the first part of the syllabus, before moving onto the next part of the exercise. Children & teenagers - I teach grammar, spelling, pronunciation and reading comprehension through a series of written exercises we complete together online. Pupils learn to read aloud with confidence and visualise in their heads how to put clear sentences together. Essay writing - I teach teenagers and adults how to put together a clear essay structure around a central argument, how to make a clear plan of the evidence and points they want to make, and how to ensure that the information is communicated in an easy-to-read format, where there is an introduction, central argument and conclusion. Thesis papers - I teach students how to plan their thesis papers, how to research literature reviews, how to format and layout their research, how to do Harvard or APA citation referencing correctly, and how to argue points in a concise and clearly understandable way.
