About Laura
I've been a high school English teacher for 13 years with experience working in the private, charter, and public sectors. Over the course of these years in the classroom I've taught 9th, 11th, and 12th grade ranging from College Preparatory levels to AP. I am the most knowledgeable in 9th-10th grade curricula, but my lessons can be adapted in any number of ways to meet the needs of students in grades 7-8 or 11-12.
I've held a number of leadership positions in my career, such as being a member on a Grade Level Lead team where I contributed to pedagogical conversations to share ideas that would best support students. I've also had the pleasure of hosting a student intern from Massachusetts and educators from India and Kazakhstan in my classroom in the last three years.

My teaching style is flexible, patient, and responsive to my students' unique skills and areas of growth. I'm detailed-oriented and an excellent listener which allows me to help my students improve in nuanced ways that ultimately strengthen their product or process as a whole.
A typical lesson plan for introducing a new skill around writing includes a model/sample study, a discussion of the elements at play that make the product successful, and what my students want to help their high school students emulate in their own work. This lesson will also include discussion of common struggles their students encounter in the writing process and actionable methods to help them work through those productively.
My lessons are for beginner educators looking for support in their unit or lesson design, whether those are centered on writing instruction or not.
I have many resources for various types of writing assignments a teacher might assign including theme writing, rhetorical analysis, and literary analysis.
