About Dr Cheryl

Cheryl Novas, Ph.D. brings 35 years of servant leadership in social services and philanthropy with 20 years as institutional research director. As a trauma psychologist, also serves in emergency management emotional and spiritual care roles and as a Mental Health Military designate in the EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association) for military families and veterans. She currently serves in Emergency Management for Hoffman Estates, Illinois and as volunteer clinical supervision for the Salvation Army Chaplaincy/Emotional & Spiritual Care program for the Central Territory USA.

Cheryl’s scope of experience, before social service engagement, includes investigative reporter, radio station manager, florist, Montessori teacher and contract illustrator. She then moved into the not-for-profit arena by serving as first executive director creating, through collaboration, a large suburban homeless shelter system, then as development director of a shelter for homeless youth. She earned her B.A. in theology and interpersonal and organizational communication from Trinity International University, M.S. in Counseling Psychology with honors and her Ph.D., with distinction, from Capella University, a CACREP certified institution and is a lifetime member of Psi-Chi. Her heuristic dissertation, The Lived Experience of Primary Family Caregivers for Combat Disabled Veterans (2016) focuses on spouses of combat veterans who served in the Vietnam War. She is currently engaged in research of resiliency after trauma based on debriefing through positive psychological methods. She recently earned a certificate in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Cheryl serves on local municipal boards, enjoys organic gardening in her greenhouse, pen & ink illustrating, piano and guitar. She states that she comes from a philanthropic family of warriors and shamans.

About the lesson

Sola Scriptura/Sola Fide/Sola Gratia/Solis Christus/Soli Deo Gloria

We will start with the Old Testament Book of Ruth; didactic then discussion and will create a solid fellowship group, together.. This is an introductory class. Most resources are open source however we will be using the Legacy Standard Bible.

You will learn the hermeneutical approach to study with the presumption that Scripture proves itself.

The Tutor provides Zoom and a Confidential DropBox for the class to share resources.

I met Dr. Novas my senior of High School struggling with Psychology and found her on Varsity Tutors to help me out. It is now Superprof but she has helped me understand the concepts that go with general psychology and the psychologist Freud, Carl Rogers, and Maslow who were all known for their certain beliefs with the what a human needs. We had gone over a lot of the fetal development stages and covered the different concepts of psychology using Myers textbook which was beneficial in learning all the concepts of psychology. I appreciate when she would help me look at the terms needed to memorize the vocabulary in psychology.
