About Mia

I train search and rescue dogs alongside teaching privately, and years spent building trust and skill patiently with working animals shape almost everything about how I run a French lesson today. Ten years into teaching now, I've worked with about one hundred ninety students, many of them people who responded poorly to harsh, high-pressure teaching styles previously in their education. My dog training background gives me genuinely rare tools, patient pacing, positive reinforcement, careful reading of frustration signals, that most language teachers were simply never taught themselves. I work particularly well with anxious or previously discouraged students, since I bring the same calm, patient, encouraging presence I use constantly training working dogs professionally. My teaching style is structured, patient, and genuinely encouraging, built on the belief that consistent positive reinforcement produces far more lasting results than pressure or frustration ever could. I have guided numerous previously discouraged students toward genuine, lasting confidence, applying the same patient principles that build trust and skill in a working dog. Students consistently tell me they feel genuinely supported rather than judged, appreciating an approach built on encouragement rather than correction alone. I take real pride in helping students who felt like slow or difficult learners discover that patient structure was simply what they needed all along. After ten years, I remain genuinely committed to this teaching approach.

Years spent training search and rescue dogs taught me that patience, clear cues, and consistent positive reinforcement genuinely build lasting skill better than pressure or frustration ever manage to achieve. Every lesson uses clear, consistent structure, the same reliable routine I rely on training working dogs, since predictability genuinely helps any learner feel secure enough to actually try. I break skills into small, achievable steps, exactly like training a complex rescue command, building confidence gradually before combining pieces into something more demanding. Positive reinforcement stays constant and genuine throughout, celebrating small wins specifically and immediately, the same training principle that reliably builds real, lasting confidence in any learner. I never punish mistakes or express frustration, since I learned early in dog training that frustration teaches fear, not skill, a lesson that applies just as clearly to people. Repetition happens through varied, engaging practice rather than dull, mindless drilling, since I've found genuine variety keeps any learner, human or canine, genuinely motivated and engaged. I read body language and energy closely, adjusting pace the moment I sense a student becoming overwhelmed or frustrated during a lesson. Consistency across sessions matters enormously, since real skill builds through steady, reliable practice over genuine time, not sporadic, inconsistent effort. Every lesson stays patient and genuinely encouraging.
