About Sukhi

My name is Sukhi and I am an academic tutor and mentor with a passion for teaching and learning. My aim is to support and motivate students towards achieving their educational goals at a pace and an environment that is beneficial for each individual.

I have worked with a variety of students and graduates in the recent years. During this time in academia, I have developed a passion for personalising education to help individuals reach their goals and overcome barriers to restricting their academic progress. As a tutor and mentor, I am patient, understanding and compassionate towards my students. Within my approach to tutoring, I will take into consideration each student’s learning style, temperament, capacity, personality and timeframe, all of which directly influence a student’s ability to learn, including:

• Knowledge and Application: To improve understanding of syllabus material, identify any gaps in your knowledge and the application of what you have learned to examination questions. It is often in the application of knowledge to exam-style questions where many students need help because it is not always something that is taught frequently at school, college or university.

• Study Skills and Personal Development: To help you find and develop your ability to learn and be successful in all areas of your education. Skills that are vital but highly overlooked in schools include organisational, time-management and study skills, which are an essential part of a successful education and professional endeavours. I take the time to incorporate skill development and aspects of personal development into the tutoring and mentoring regime.

• Confidence and Motivation: To help students understand their own style of learning, including their ability and barriers. A range of psychological and developmental studies have confirmed individuals vary in their approach to learning and developing knowledge (i.e. Kolb, 1984; Honey & Mumford, 1982). When a student understands their style of learning better, they are able to engage with the criteria through methods that suits them and reduce frustration, anxiety and stress towards learning. Notably, enabling an individual to explore and identify their approach to learning is a beneficial life skill. This may be applicable to all and not just those who are struggling with exams and topics.

These skills, strategies and techniques for learning effectively, overcoming procrastination, and translating what you learn in class into answers are essential in mastering subject content and academic progress.

I especially welcome students who are looking to study medicine, psychology, neuroscience, physical and biological sciences or business-related degrees at university. For mentoring services, I welcome those who are currently at undergraduate level or recent graduates.
