Hi everyone!
First time poster. I'd like to post some info on the year 12 SACE Chemistry summer crash course I've run for the past nine years
Through word of mouth, you'll find many of the top merit students offering private tutoring for Chem within Adelaide actually attended this course themselves
My inspiration to create this course began when I finished yr12 and realised most of your school class time is spent mindlessly copying down notes from the whiteboard, with no time to understand it and practise questions.
To get merits in any subject, it's not just about knowing the content - it's about knowing how to EXPRESS your answers to get enough marks. By the time school starts and you have 3+ summatives a week, chemistry will be a subject you are revising once more and not learning for the first time.
THE COURSE INCLUDES:
1. 10 day course BEFORE year 12 starts, covering the entire year 12 syllabus + yr11 revision on the first day
2. Printed, formatted typed Notes provided at the start of each topic + examples of Qs and their preferred answers expressed in dot point form
3. There will be a revision day at the end of the course, just in time for school start.
4. Mini-tests/homework assignments to consolidate each topic afterwards
5. 2023 SASTA study guide (2024 comes out in april) so you don't need to buy
6. My Google drive containing other practice tests/materials + 2002-2023 SACE exams with the SASTA official answers
7. Reflects the 2018 revised curriculum, with a specific approach for the SHE (science as a human endeavour) component
Time will be dedicated using the notes to understand the content in a tutorial format, then jumping straight into answering questions with the tutor's support one-on-one.
COURSE DATES
**Two options to choose from / preference - mainly based on when your school finishes the school year 2023:
1. 13-15, 18-20th DECEMBER 2023 & 2-5th JANUARY 2024 [10 days total, 6 days in Dec, 4 days in Jan]
2. 2024 JAN 5, 8-9, 11-12, 15, 17-19, 22 [10 days total, all in January]
* Specific dates to suit every student has always been challenging - you MUST discuss dates with your parents ASAP (since they are booking holiday times right now). Dates can be preferenced in the google form to help me organise and avoid clashes with VET/other commitments.
* IF there is an alternative set of dates to suit a majority of you, then date options can be modified... Similarly, there is an option to attend a combination of the option 1/2 dates.
OTHER DETAILS:
* Tutors I've personally chosen from the Umed UCAT Tuition Team and/or attended this course previously: med/dent/chem engineering university students, recently finished their yr12, merits/20.0 themselves with tutoring experience and classroom personality
* Small class size of 8-12 students, chilled class environment you feel comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes
* Venue - CBD adelaide location
* Lesson times: 9am-1pm generally
* Same Pricing as always (no you not be paying more d/t inflation!) - $17.5 hourly rate (four hours each day) over 10 days total + ~$100 for the printed notes/tests/extra resources/printing costs.
Each day does sound intensive but 2-3 breaks are titrated carefully into each day 🫡 Given the workload in year 12 and especially if studying for the UCAT, this course can definitely take off a lot of pressure before year 12 starts
