About Ruwaida

My name is Ruwaida Khandker and I am an 18 year old female student who is starting her degree in Media and Cultural Studies at Lancaster University from September 2015. I recently completed my A Levels in Media Studies, English Language and Sociology; and am more than happy to tutor you in these subjects to a GCSE, AS or A level standard. I am also an avid writer and my work has been published before. Therefore I am also keen on tutoring you in Creative Writing. Having had plenty of private tuition before; I have learned the do's and don't's of tutoring and how to execute it properly - and I would love to turn this into first hand experience! August 2015. Worked for Manpower and First Great Western as a Customer Assistant in Swindon train station. Work involved giving customers information on routes/train times and any other information required, assisting disabled passengers to board/alight the train and general administrative tasks.

August 8th-9th 2015. Event steward at Luna Cinema at Lydiard Park, Swindon. Open air cinema event - Work involved manning the gate and scanning tickets, giving out free cider samples and general customer assistance. Gained face to face customer service/sales experience and event management skills.

July 2015. Marketing/HR Internship at NewsCred, Dhaka. I undertook an internship at the media marketing firm NewsCred in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Here I performed activities such as collating new ideas for recruitment and witnessing the recruitment process which has familiarized me with working in a Human Resources based role. I also worked with the company’s content marketing team and aided in researching new ways to market products through social media in a digitally emerging environment. This developed my understanding of the media industry in a consistently changing world.

July – August 2014. Editorial Internship at the Dhaka Tribune newspaper in Bangladesh. This was an exciting and valuable experience as I got to witness what goes on behind a successful English newspaper in a foreign country. Helped with proofreading and participated in pitch meetings. I also wrote four published articles, revolving around the film industry – my area of expertise. This helped me gain writing, administrative and editorial skills, and a good eye for detail.

April 2011-June 2013. Volunteer, The Forget Me Not Trust, King Cross Charity Shop, Halifax. Worked as a shop assistant. Work involved manning the till, customer service, organizing stock, working on shop floor and providing support at different fundraising events. Gained skills in customer service and working towards targets.

Summers 2011 and 2012. Volunteer, Bradford Youth Development Partnership, Bradford.
Provided support in administrative and reception work such as file keeping and data logging/management. Especially undertook research into funding and observing interviews. Experienced working to strict deadlines.

Augusts 2009 -2012. Volunteer, Alice’s Run, Halifax. Helped at the fund raising events for the Epilepsy Foundation. Helped to sell refreshments and answering the inquiries of the participants of the run. Enhanced customer service skills.

August 2009. Creche Assistant. St Augustine’s Early Years Centre, Halifax. Provided help around finding jobs for asylum seekers. Also cooked lunch for asylum seekers and the homeless.

Interests & Extra Curricular Activities:
• Regular contributor in college newsletter. In spare time enjoy creative writing.
• Committed member of the Calderdale Youth Orchestra. Regularly represented the regional orchestra at various concerts and musical events between 2009 and 2013; including playing at The Royal Albert Hall.
• Anti-Bullying Ambassador at Calder High School 2013.
• Well traveled and likes to visit different parts of the world to learn about history and culture.

Language Proficiency:
Can communicate fluently in both Bengali and English and partially in French.
