About Maeve

I'm Maeve, a third-year BSc Psychology student at the University of Birmingham! Psychology is the bridge between science and art, and I love how much creativity there is in the subject and the research currently being published. For example, did you know that neuroscientists have found evidence that the same brain activity present in movement occurs when we think about or anticipate moving? This suggests we can train our bodies by simply thinking about training - the power of visualisation! I am passionate about mental health, especially in students and children. I'm really enjoying my dissertation research about the relationship between children's mental health, parental warmth, and executive function. In the future, I am aiming to qualify as a clinical or educational psychologist, and I plan to use my role to improve mental health services in schools and universities. I took Psychology, Art, and Maths at A-Level and achieved A*A*B. I love teaching my subject to people in the same position as me a few years ago, and I strive to both teach and mentor my students. Throughout my experience tutoring while at university, I have learnt the importance of inspiring confidence and self-assurance in students. This process has helped students realise what they are capable of and that they usually know much more than they think!

About the lesson

I teach with a focus on exam technique, via practice papers and model answers. I encourage my students to play an active role in the lesson and to take ownership of their learning by attempting questions by themselves before I step in to support them. I am happy to tailor lessons to each individual student's need; whether that's by using lots of visuals, talking through exam answers together, or by using scenarios and analogies to support understanding. Typically my lessons are one hour, however, I can also provide 90-minute lessons. I have over a year's experience tutoring one-to-one and group lessons to students virtually. My subject is Psychology and I teach GCSE to A-Level. I achieved an A* in Psychology A-Level and I am currently studying it at degree level. I can also provide statistics support.
