About Robert
Hello!
I am a student at the University of Bristol studying History. I'm interested in European 20th-century History, especially Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, as well as Modern Chinese history. I've been selected to take a year abroad next year at Hong Kong University to further specialise in Chinese history. Aside from History, my passion is current-affairs and particularly UK politics and international relations. I have spent time interning for a government minister and so I bring some practical knowledge to the teaching of politics in
Previously, I lived in Cairo working in an international school for nine months. While I worked in marketing I often helped out as a teaching assistant for Religious Studies, Business Studies and Geography. In addition, I regularly tutored around Cairo. Lastly, for the previous four years, I have worked on a summer camp for visiting Chinese and Japanese students which aims to improve their English as well as give a cultural overview of the UK.
Aside from tutoring, I'm a keen traveller and foodie. I do a bit of singing and am totally useless at anything resembling sport.
I look forward to meeting you. Please feel free to drop me a message if you require any further information or would like to go through your particular requirements.

I'm a firm believer in establishing a really strong relationship with a tutee. Honesty and a bit of humour is key to this. I know how much difference sitting in a classroom with a teacher whose company you actually enjoy makes.
Key to my teaching technique is reviewing past-papers in anticipation of upcoming questions. This approach does two things: First, it allows me to identify key themes and common questions that the candidate will likely face. Secondly, it allows me to develop the candidates' style of answering question and exam-technique.
High-quality feedback on work is essential. Too often feedback simply states whether it is right or wrong without going into the specific details. That's not something that you'll get with me. Going through feedback and making sure the tutee understands it is, I believe, one of the most significant elements of teaching which is sadly too often ignored.
Throughout I hope to teach tutees not just how to do well in exams but also to critically engage with the subject and put forward their own opinions and arguments. In my own experience, the most significant hurdle that many students find when entering university is that they are unable to appropriately express their own argument which ultimately limits them from receiving top marks.
