About Jack
I am a pianist/violinist/conductor/composer who is currently pursuing a Masters of Performance in Piano from the Royal College of Music in London.
I have ample experience teaching both at the primary, secondary school, and university level as a private teacher, and an associate lecturer/professor of piano instruction at Brigham Young University Idaho.
I have an international musical background with artists diplomas from the Australian International Conservatorium of Music, a Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho, and specialized instruction from the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, with teachers from Juilliard, Eastman, Indiana and other top American music institutions.
I have returned to the place of my birth and heritage in London to gain expertise in Piano performance and Conducting at the Royal College of Music. I look forward to becoming a part of this vibrant musical scene.

As I was primarily self-taught until the collegiate level, I know how to make my teaching effective both musically and technically, as I explored through self-discovery what not to do, but also, that each student is unique, and can develop their own voice at the piano if nurtured in the right way.
I mix classical methods of training and with a wide range of repertoire, (jazz, pop, soundtracks, world music,) as I feel that it is important that the student familiarizes themselves with not just the Western music development, and one branch of repertoire. I focus on music theory, as a horizontal experience in the actual repertoire we are studying, so as to facilitate learning and memorization. Physical gestures at the piano, technical proficiency, and how to express oneself musically is at the forefront of my musical pedagogy.
I wish to help each student develop their own individual voice at the piano, and primarily work on how to create a "singing tone" with the wrist as the conduit for the diversity of touch and expression that the piano is capable of.
I mix American methodologies (such as Faber, Royal Conservatory etc.) with European training (such as ABRSM, and Oxford etc.) and Suzuki, so as to give the student variety in method books at the beginning stages. However, focus on repertoire and composers who produces pedagogical piano works, both classical and otherwise, is my main objective, as there is so much to be learnt in just one short piece.
