About Shruthi

Hi, I'm Shruthi! I'm an enthusiastic and passionate educator who believes that every student can succeed in math if they are given the right tools, encouragement, and helping hands.
As a kid, it wasn't always easy to ask questions. When I had finally gotten a math tutor, my tutor helped me open up and not be afraid to ask academic questions anymore. Overall, that made me into a better learner and sparked my interest in mathematics, which inspired me to become a tutor!
From my experience as both the tutor and tutee, I understand that everyone learns differently, which is why I will make sure to understand you and your learning style meticulously.
When I'm not tutoring, you can usually find me baking, singing, crocheting, or hanging out with friends and family. These things/people ground me, and I will bring that grounded nature into our tutoring sessions.

About the lesson

I am an undergraduate student at Rice University with a year of experience tutoring middle schoolers in middle school math and physics. Now, I focus on tutoring middle and high school mathematics and my sessions are directed towards middle and high school students.
I believe that the presence of a tutor in a learner's life is vital for their confidence in the classroom! With the right guidance and teaching, ANYONE can master difficult subjects. In my lessons, I focus on doing lots of targeted practice to increase confidence in certain skills as well as breaking complex topics down into understandable pieces so that the student can recognize patterns within the topic they are learning. My priority is that the student understands the approaches to take when doing a math problem as well as recognizing patterns.
A typical lesson plan for a tutoring session with me typically looks like a check-in, going over past/tricky concepts from homework or past sessions, introducing the next consecutive topic (that I will do on the whiteboard), guided practice that WE do together, then a little bit of independent practice. Afterwards, I will give the student a couple of practice problems to do by themselves.
My biggest priority is for my students to feel confident and comfortable going forward in their academic career! My teaching style emphasizes an open environment for students to ask questions and be inquisitive.
