About Alex
Hello! My name is Alex, and I am a bioengineering student at Rice University with a passion for math, chemistry, and physics. I am thrilled at the opportunity to be your tutor! For a long time, I actually didn't enjoy these subjects — it wasn't until high school that I realized the issue wasn't the material itself, but that the approach to learning it is deeply personal. Once I found the methods that worked for how I think, everything changed, and I've been passionate about these subjects ever since.
I have earned a 5 on the AP Physics 1, AP Chemistry, and AP Precalculus exams, along with an A in each corresponding class, giving me firsthand, recent experience with exactly the material I teach. My focus spans math up through Algebra 2, AP Precalculus, intro chemistry, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics 1.
I take a personalized approach to every lesson, believing that any student can succeed in a "hard" subject once it's taught in a way that matches how they think. I'm also fluent in Spanish, which I'm happy to use in lessons if that's helpful for a student or family. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, patience, and love for these subjects with you!

Every student can succeed in subjects with a reputation for being "hard," as long as the material is taught in a way that matches how they think. That might mean visual tools like "cheat sheets" connecting every concept in a unit, working through problems step by step, or whatever approach makes a concept actually click rather than just feel familiar.
A typical session starts with a quick warm-up, then moves into reviewing recent material or homework, breaking down whatever concept is causing trouble, and working through practice problems together. Pacing stays flexible: some students need more repetition, others move faster and want to go deeper.
Lessons cover math up through Algebra 2, AP Precalculus, intro chemistry, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics 1 — whether the goal is keeping up with a fast-paced class, prepping for an exam, or building a stronger foundation before moving on.
