About Michael
I received BS degrees in Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Biology, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and continued on there to obtain a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics. My 40 year career involved teaching undergraduate, graduate and medical students while running a reasearch program developing ways to target treatment to cancerous tissues and cells, and strategies to improve stroke treatment. We used usultrasound, lasers and ionizing radiation to both image diseased tissues and serve as targeting/activating modalities for delivering drugs and other theraputics specifically to diseased tissues. Therapeutics were delivered using microbubbles and nanomaterials, e.g., liposomes. I always had high school and junior high students working in my lab every summer; one way of helping develop new scientists.

My lessons and tutoring are geared towards the student(s). Forty years of teaching experience has given me the ability to identify when students are having difficulty with a concept or learning specific skills and then how to adjust my teaching to best assist the students along their learning pathway.
Although most of my teaching has been at the College and University level, I also have experience teaching and mentoring junior high and high school students.
