About Kathleen
I have a Bachelors degree in special-education K to 12 and a Masters degree in special education Birth to 5 years of age. I have taught in the Branford Public school program for 31 years and retired in 2005. Since then I have been privately tutoring students individually either in person or online. I try to make my lessons interesting and fun by using games like Hangman and tic-tac-toe. For the students in 3rd to 6th grade I recommend using any of the books from the I Survived Series. Using this series the students can enjoy a fictional story included with a nonfiction topic like I Survived the Japanese Tsunami of 2011.

When having difficulty learning to read in elementary school, I recommend using the Orton Gillingham phonics program.Online I have all the materials needed to provide these type of lessons. I also provide lessons for reading comprehension and writing skills.For my older students, I recommend using the Painless Vocabulary Book which Improves the vocabulary of middle and high school students.
